An Evening With Poncho

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to spend an evening with Poncho, an oldie and a goodie.

Poncho is a sleepy dog with a low voice.

I shot mostly with the 35mm f/1.8, at f/1.8.

The shoot was in the evening and at night, and in order to take reasonably focused shots, I had to boost the auto ISO range to 1600.

I haven't shot a lot above 800 ISO and the results held up, so long as you don't look too closely for grain.

I cropped this shot heavily and there is grain apparent in the top right corner.

The confines of the room and the furniture in it, meant isolating the subject was difficult.

He seemed to like the corner of the couch.

Halifax: Day 17, More Beach

Today I sifted through the rest of the photos from yesterday's beach trip. I'm still in a food coma from the weekend. Crazy.

Taking a dog to the local dog park to play is a bit of a let down compared to this.

Shiny sand is shiny.

This crescent would look pretty cool from the air; it's quite large.

Tide was coming in.

A good Hallowe'en tree.

Complete with crazy moss. Or fungus. Or lichen. I really don't know, but it looks like fake spider webbing.

Halifax: Day 16, South Shore Beaches

Today I was chauffeured around some south shore beaches following a heart attack breakfast that required feats of strength and heroics to complete. It was a beautiful warm day and I had an awesome time. Took many photos!

These front row seats belonged to a bakery; a perfect spot to eat a treat.

Somewhere amidst these rocks rest seals. When the weather is sunny and the tide is low, at least. It was overcast and high tide.

The sunset was spectacular; the mosquitoes loved it.

There were many more photos from the day but it's very late and I'm too tired to post them. I'll save them for the next rain day!

Halifax: Day 14, Critters

Another weather day. While I made it outside for about 15 minutes before it started drizzling, I really didn't do much photography. I did, however, change my workflow slightly to include a different method of reducing image sizes. It's working well.

Halifax: Day Nine, Shrooms and Dogs

Today was a lovely relaxing day of walking in the woods and taking the dogs to the beach, and the the photos are unsurprisingly a mix of forest macro and dog portraits. The weather was overcast but occasionally opened up for some decent light, as seen in the macro shots. I had two assistants finding macro subjects for me and it was a huge help. Six eyes > two.

My two assistants located this fun looking Smurf house.

I love this color of orange. One day I will learn why things become the colors they do. While the two obvious reasons are to attract or repel insects and animals, neither seems to apply to this fungus.

This giant spider was approximately two millimeters long.
